State University of New York Empire State College and Hudson Valley Community College have formally entered into an agreement that will ease transferability of community college credits to a four-year program leading to a bachelor’s degree at Empire State College.<\/p>\n
The Pathways Transfer Program is designed for Hudson Valley Community College students who have completed or will complete an associate degree, A.A., A.S. or A.A.S., prior to enrolling at SUNY Empire State College. Through the agreement, all of the credits earned at Hudson Valley Community College can be transferred toward a bachelor’s degree, B.A., B.S. or B.P.S., at Empire State College providing a seamless transition for HVCC graduates.<\/p>\n
“The Pathways agreement removes barriers of time and place and makes it easier for Hudson Valley Community College graduates to live and work in their communities while earning a SUNY Empire State College bachelor’s degree,” said SUNY Empire State College President Alan R. Davis. “Our partnership builds on the SUNY systemwide efforts facilitating student transfer, and President Matonak and his team have done outstanding work in making this agreement possible.”<\/p>\n
“We are so pleased to broaden our relationship with Empire State College through this Pathways Transfer Agreement,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Drew Matonak. “Many of our students enroll at Hudson Valley with the intention of transferring to complete a bachelor’s degree. This agreement will provide an opportunity to do so in the unique learning environment provided by Empire State College. Students who attend Hudson Valley also generally wish to stay in the area to complete their baccalaureate. This agreement allows them to do just that.”<\/p>\n
The agreement comes at a time when online learning is growing rapidly at our college, and a growing number of online students are seeking transfer options. Enrollment in online courses at Hudson Valley grew 6.9 percent from 2009-10 to 2010-11 and the number of online course sections offered grew 13.2 percent.<\/p>\n
With appropriate advising, Hudson Valley Community College students may complete up to 80 lower-division credits including the associate degree at Hudson Valley Community College as long as the courses meet bachelor’s degree requirements. The remaining 48 upper-division credits will be completed at Empire State College.<\/p>\n
