{"id":2913,"date":"2012-02-07T11:11:07","date_gmt":"2012-02-07T16:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/curriculum-committee-sets-agenda-for-feb-13-meeting\/"},"modified":"2012-02-07T11:11:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-07T16:11:07","slug":"curriculum-committee-sets-agenda-for-feb-13-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/curriculum-committee-sets-agenda-for-feb-13-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum Committee Sets Agenda For Feb. 13 Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following is the agenda set for the Curriculum Committee meeting to be held Monday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. in BTC Meeting Room 1.\u00a0 All are welcome to attend.<\/p>\n<p>The next deadline for submission of curriculum proposals is February 13.<\/p>\n<p>For any questions or support creating curriculum proposals please contact Lois Terry, <a href=\"mailto:l.terry@hvcc.edu\">l.terry@hvcc.edu<\/a> or Mary Evans, <a href=\"mailto:m.evans@hvcc.edu\">m.evans@hvcc.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1.0 Roll call by signatures<\/p>\n<p>2.0 Approval of minutes of November 28, 2011<\/p>\n<p>3.0 New Business<\/p>\n<p>3.1 \u00a0<strong>Deactivate ARTS 131 &#8211; Photography II \u2013 submitted by Dorothy Reynolds<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nRequest to remove ARTS 131 Photography II to avoid confusion with\u00a0a new digital photography course concurrently proposed.<\/p>\n<p>3.2 <strong>New Course ARTS 139 &#8211; Photography II \u2013 submitted by Dorothy Reynolds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ARTS 139 provides students with a second level digital photography course.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3.3 <strong>New Course ARTS 229 Black and White Photography \u2013 submitted by Dorothy Reynolds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a film-based studio photography course which students can take as one of two Fine Arts electives in the Fine Arts Degree Program.<\/p>\n<p>3.4 <strong>Deactivation of ARTS 233 &#8211; Digital Photography \u2013 submitted by Dorothy Reynolds<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nRequest to deactivate ARTS 233 as it will overlap with the new course ARTS 139 submitted<br \/>\nconcurrently.<\/p>\n<p>3.5 <strong>Change in degree requirements for the Digital Media Certificate \u2013 submitted by Dorothy\u00a0 Reynolds<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe changes provide greater flexibility and update the caliber of the digital photography course to that of a studio art course.<\/p>\n<p>3.6 <strong> Change in degree requirements for the Fine Arts A.S. degree program \u2013 submitted by <\/strong> <strong>Dorothy Reynolds<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nChanges to the Fine Arts degree program, submitted concurrently, are reflected in this proposal as well as a change in Fine Arts elective credits and the total credit hours for the program.<\/p>\n<p>3.7 <strong>New Course HLTH 155 &#8211; Wilderness and Remote First Aid \u2013 submitted by Colleen Ferris<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nNew course HLTH 155 will serve the population of students interested in a first aid course that goes beyond standard first aid.\u00a0 HLTH 155 will prepare students to recognize emergencies, make first aid decisions, and provide cared in a wilderness or remote setting.<\/p>\n<p>3.8\u00a0 <strong>New Course PHED 275 &#8211; Professional Issues in Sport and Exercise \u2013 submitted by\u00a0 Andrew Blanchard<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nPHED 275 offers students a new physical education elective.<\/p>\n<p>3.9 <strong> Change in the program entrance and degree requirements for the Physical Education Studies \u2013 submitted by Andrew Blanchard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Program entrance requirements change from requiring a lab science to any science and a unit of Math to a unit of Math including GED.\u00a0 Changes in degree requirements add Social Science restricted electives to the restricted electives for Humanities.\u00a0 The changes being made to major requirements provide students with more options.<\/p>\n<p>3.10 <strong>Change in Course Title, Course Description, and Pre-Requisites for CIVL 100 \u2013 Rendering \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Review of the program with the advisory board indicates that consistency in course titles assists in transferability for students.\u00a0 This proposal changes the course title from Rendering to Visualization I.\u00a0 Other changes were made to align the course and its materials with the requirements at four-year institutions.<\/p>\n<p>3.11 <strong>Introduction of New Course CIVL 102 \u2013 Architectural Fundamentals \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CIVL 102 will aid student transfer to four-year institutions. This is part of the change to the entire ACT program as directed by the Industrial Advisory Board and four-year institutions.<\/p>\n<p>3.12 <strong>Introduction of<\/strong><strong> New<\/strong><strong> Course CIVL 103 \u2013 Visualization II \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nCIVL 103 will aid student transfer to four-year institutions. This is part of the change to the entire ACT program as directed by the Industrial Advisory Board and four-year institutions.<\/p>\n<p>3.13 <strong>Change in Course Title, Course Description, Pre-Requisites, Contact and Credit Hours\u00a0of CIVL 221 \u2013 Architectural Design \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The change is part of an entire program change to facilitate student transfer to four-year institutions.\u00a0 Changes include a new course title, Design I; pre-requisites CIVL 102 &#8211; Architectural Fundamentals and CIVL 100 &#8211; Visualization I; contact hour increases from 2 lecture\/3 lab to 3 lecture\/4 lab; and an increase of course credit hours from 3 to 5.<\/p>\n<p>3.14 <strong>Change in Course Title, Course Description, Pre-Requisites, Contact and Credit Hour\u00a0 for CIVL 225 &#8211; Architecture Design II \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The change is part of an entire program revision to facilitate student transfer to four-year institutions.\u00a0 CIVL 221 \u2013 Design II is the proposed new title.\u00a0\u00a0 A pre-requisite to CIVL 221 Design I and a pre or co-requisite CIVL 223 \u2013 Building Construction II have been added.\u00a0 Contact hours are increased from 2 lecture\/3 lab to 3 lecture\/4 lab.\u00a0 Credit hours are increased from 3 to 5.\u00a0 Four-year institutions require design courses have a minimum of 5 credits and 7 contact hours.<\/p>\n<p>3.15 <strong>Introduction of New Course CIVL 226 \u2013 Design III\u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nCIVL 226 will aid student transfer to four-year institutions. This is part of the change to the entire ACT program as directed by the Industrial Advisory Board and four-year institutions.<\/p>\n<p>3.16 <strong>Introduction of New Course \u2013 Form 103\/College Forum \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine\u00a0LaPlante<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe proposal introduces a new forum course specifically for architectural students<\/p>\n<div><strong>3.17<strong> Change in degree requirements for the Architecture Technology A.A.S. degree program \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<\/strong><\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong> <\/strong>This proposal updates the current degree program as required by industry to aid transfer to four-year institutions.\u00a0 Changes include four new courses added to the Architecture Technology A.A.S. degree in place of five existing courses; also proposed are changes in name, course description, pre-requisites, and credit\/contact hours for other required degree courses.<\/div>\n<p>3.18 <strong>Introduction of New Architecture Certificate Program &#8211;<\/strong> <strong>submitted by Dr. Christine<br \/>\nLaPlante<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThis certificate has been developed to enhance employment opportunities for students within the field of Architecture Technology.
