Thank you to all members of the campus community who helped to make New Student Orientation a rousing success!<\/p>\n
On Saturday, more than 1,000 students attended New Student Orientation. Along with them came approximately 1,000 family members and guests. A review of their evaluations revealed that they were overwhelmingly satisfied with the day\u2019s events.\u00a0 Over 98 percent of the students who completed a Student Orientation Questionnaire responded favorably to the question, \u201cOverall, how would you rate your Orientation experience?\u201d Over 99 percent of the parents and guests also responded favorably to the question on the Orientation Questionnaire for Parents and Guests.<\/p>\n
When asked about what was most helpful about Orientation, responses from new students included:\u00a0 \u201cKnowing where classes are;\u201d \u201cInformation on getting involved;\u201d \u201cThe tables with the clubs;\u201d \u201cThe tour;\u201d \u201cGetting ready for your future session;\u201d \u201cCareer plans;\u201d \u201cThe general session;\u201d \u201cTalking to students;\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s expected of me as a HVCC student;\u201d \u201cFriendly people;\u201d \u201cThe transfer process session;\u201d \u201cGetting books and ID;\u201d \u201cLearning about activities;\u201d Helpful staff;\u201d \u201cKnowing where my classes are;\u201d \u201cIndividual info sessions of choice;” \u201cThe people in the bookstore;\u201d \u201cFeeling welcome;\u201d \u201cThey really stressed that everyone is here to help me!;\u201d \u201cAll of the staff assistance;\u201d \u201cBookstore info\u2014waivers;\u201d \u201cLearning more about the college and what my expectations are going to be;\u201d \u201cThe speakers were great;\u201d \u201cEveryone wearing yellow shirts with \u2018Ask Me;\u2019 \u201d \u201cLearning Center;\u201d \u201cHow the college e-mail is the center of communication within HVCC;\u201d \u201cThe photographer guy;\u201d \u201cThe transfer session;\u201d \u201cLearning about how to do good in class;\u201d \u201cKnowing I can get help at any time;\u201d \u201cEverything;\u201d \u201cFinancial Aid.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parent and guest comments included: \u00a0\u201cStudent support services;\u201d \u201cLibrary open house;\u201d \u201cEverything was great;\u201d \u201cOpening session and the registration process;\u201d \u201cEveryone very engaging;\u201d \u201cJust being here talking to students and faculty;\u201d \u201cLearning about all the student services available to my child;\u201d \u201cVery friendly, outgoing interactions at every communication point;\u201d \u201cI was able to choose two topics that were of concern to me;\u201d \u201cEverything;\u201d \u201cThe student tour was the most helpful;\u201d \u201cHow to connect with the right department or person for information;\u201d \u201cThe Student Life Session\u2014having students explain their student life;\u201d \u201cFinancial Aid help;\u201d \u201cGeneral Session;\u201d \u201cEasily identifiable staff;\u201d \u201cIt was very organized;\u201d \u201cSuccinct, relevant info;\u201d \u201cHigh School Grad to College Scholar: Academic Advisement and the Liberal Arts Student;\u201d \u201cFERPA\u20143rd<\/sup> child later, I finally understand my access ability;\u201d \u201cThe positive feedback from students and faculty;\u201d\u00a0 \u201cInformation booths;\u201d \u201cMaking my daughter feel welcome;\u201d \u201cStudent Transfer session;\u201d \u201cWebsite info;\u201d \u201cMade me feel that everything would be O.K.;\u201d \u201cSo much information that was easy to understand.\u201d<\/p>\n The Orientation was the result of the planning and hard work of many, many individuals throughout our campus community.
