Largest-Ever Graduating Class This Saturday for Hudson Valley Community College Commencement<\/b><\/p>\n
2,074 Students Eligible to Participate<\/p>\n
Hudson Valley Community College will celebrate its 57th Commencement on Saturday, May 21, with 2,074 students eligible to participate, the largest graduating class in the history of the college. The ceremony is being held in the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium to accommodate the record number of graduates and their guests.<\/p>\n
When: Saturday, May 21, 2011<\/p>\n
7:45 a.m. – Graduates will start lining up in the G-Lot behind the McDonough Sport Complex<\/p>\n
8:45 a.m. – Procession\/Ceremony begins. Graduates and Platform Party will process in from the left field side of the stadium.<\/p>\n

–\tThis is the largest graduating class in the history of Hudson Valley Community College – 2,074 graduates, the majority of which come from the Capital Region. The youngest is 18 and the oldest graduate is 64.\n<\/p>\n
–\tIn 2010 the college had 2,020, and in 2009, 1,732 graduates. The college-s first Commencement in 1955 had 72 graduates.\n<\/p>\n
–\tThis year, we also have the largest number of honor graduates (GPA of 3.5 and higher) in the history of the college. There are 489 honor graduates in the Class of 2011.\n<\/p>\n
–\tGraduates this year represent the following countries: Canada, China, Cote D-Ivoire, Ghana, Guyana, Israel, Nigeria, Poland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.\n<\/p>\n
–\tThe program graduating the largest number of students this year is Individual Studies with 389 graduates, followed by the Business Administration AAS program with 161, and the Criminal Justice program with 147 students. The largest number of graduates in the School of Health Sciences is Nursing with 107, while the largest in the School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies is Electrical Construction and Maintenance with 66 graduates.\n<\/p>\n
–\tThis year we have our first graduates in the Digital Media certificate and Disabilities Studies certificate programs.\n<\/p>\n
–\tThe Capital Region economy annually receives roughly $51.2 million in income due to college operations.\n<\/p>\n
–\tHudson Valley is the second-largest institution of higher learning in the Capital Region and the fifth largest community college in New York State.\n<\/p>\n

–\tSome of our graduates are going directly to work for Catholic Charities, General Electric Power Systems, National Grid, Albany Medical Center, The Center for Disability Services, GlobalFoundries, Time Warner Cable, and SUNY-s College of Nanoscale Science.\n<\/p>\n
–\tThe college recently learned it was one of 120 high-achieving two-year institutions eligible for the inaugural Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. The eligibility puts Hudson Valley among the top ten percent of the nation-s community colleges, according to The Aspen Institute, which is offering the $1 million prize.<\/p>\n
