The process in WIReD to identify students\u00a0to receive\u00a0Early Alert letters \u2013 the Early Warning Web Application \u2013 opened for use on Tuesday, Jan. 22. <\/strong><\/p>\n Data collected at Hudson Valley for the last several years shows <\/strong>that more than 40 percent of the students identified for Early Alert letters are chronically absent from class or have never attended class.<\/p>\n This data underscores how important it is for instructors to identify students who are in class but showing signs they are struggling. These are the students who may take action now to succeed this term and lay the groundwork to return.<\/p>\n You may notice that some students are inattentive, unprepared or do not participate in discussions, fail to turn in assignments or perform poorly on early assignments. The goal of the early alert\u00a0letters is to prompt these students to meet with their instructor and formulate a plan for success.<\/p>\n Although the identification process will be available throughout most of the semester, now is the time to intervene with these students so they can take the steps necessary to succeed before their first exams.<\/strong><\/p>\n Written instructions for using the Early Warning Web Application have been sent to all academic departments.
