Hudson Valley and Cazenovia College have partnered to bring a bachelor\u2019s degree program in Human Services to campus. The program is in the evenings, part-time, and takes about three years to complete so students in the Capital Region can earn a four-year degree, but remain on campus. It\u2019s been very successful, in no small part because of the technologies available at the college.<\/p>\n

The students pictured have just presented their Capstone papers. The Capstone presentation is their last assignment before graduation from Cazenovia this May.<\/p>\n

To bridge the physical distance with the presentations, Dr. Mary Handley, program director of Human Services at Cazenovia College, connected to a Hudson Valley Community College videoconference classroom to see her students\u2019 presentations utilizing Cisco Telepresence Jabber, a desktop videoconferencing software.<\/p>\n

By utilizing this technology, Dr. Handley was able to see and hear each student and their PowerPoint presentation simultaneously. \u201cThe technology is amazing, and the presentations were crystal clear,\u201d said Handley. \u201cThis final presentation is the culmination of the student\u2019s work in the program and the college\u2019s cutting edge technology helps them shine! The combination of technology with academics exemplifies the learning experience of the future \u2014 it\u2019s here, now.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Viking Video Technologies worked with Cazenovia\u2019s IT department to install the software, which allows people at any location to join those on campus. Cisco Telepresence Jabber is being used at Hudson Valley for ITV Distance Learning, college employment interviews, departmental meetings and to connect with guest speakers.<\/p>\n
