{"id":4566,"date":"2013-09-24T17:49:57","date_gmt":"2013-09-24T21:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/sisters-incynch-recognized-for-spring-book-drive\/"},"modified":"2013-09-24T17:49:57","modified_gmt":"2013-09-24T21:49:57","slug":"sisters-incynch-recognized-for-spring-book-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/sisters-incynch-recognized-for-spring-book-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Sisters Incynch Recognized for Spring Book Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Sept. 19members of the student organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hvcc.edu\/studentactivities\/clubact.html#SistersIncynch\">Sisters Incynch<\/a> were notified that they had received a Gold Award from Worldwide Book Drive Corporation.\u00a0 The award includes a certificate, plaque, Web page acknowledgment and video.\u00a0 Members discovered that running a book drive is a small service learning experience that provides a great impact for \u00a0local communities and communities worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The book drive took place from March through May of this year. Sisters Incynch Club provides essential support for our diverse student population through a multicultural forum. Members design projects and programs that embrace diversity.<\/p>\n<p>Worldwide Book Drive works with organizations to distribute hundreds of thousands of books locally and internationally. According to the CIA World Factbook, an estimated 785 million people 15 years and older live without basic literacy skills.<\/p>\n<p>A special thank you is extended to the following for their assistance in greatly contributing to the Sisters Incynch book drive. Department Chair Maria Palmara of the English, Foreign Languages and ESL Department; Program Assistant Kit Haynes of History Philosophy and Social Science; Joseph Bode and Mail Room staff; and the Viking\u2019s Cove Bookstore staff.
