{"id":5637,"date":"2014-08-25T11:51:34","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T15:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-85\/"},"modified":"2014-08-25T11:51:34","modified_gmt":"2014-08-25T15:51:34","slug":"blackboard-tip-of-the-week-85","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-85\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Tip of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Bb 9.1 April 2014<\/i><\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>As you create a new test,<\/strong> <\/span>or modify the options for an existing test while launching your course(s) for the Fall semester, you will want to know about a number of welcome features in the new version of<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>Blackboard<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(<i>Bb 9.1 April 2014<\/i>)!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>First,<\/strong><\/span> when you are setting the options for a test in the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Test Options<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b>window and you set a test for multiple attempts, you can now tell<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>Blackboard<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i>which test-attempt grade to display, whether<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Highest Grade<\/b>,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Last Graded Attempt<\/b>, or otherwise (previously, you had to do this after you\u2019d created or modified your test, by using the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Edit Column Information<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b>control for the column for the test in your Grade Center):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/acaddb.hvcc.edu\/~m.petersen\/bbtotw\/images\/082514\/01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"635\" height=\"461\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Second,<\/strong> <\/span>after you\u2019ve set your Test Availability options (single attempt or multiple attempts, timer, auto-submit, forced completion, etc.), you now can set Test Availability Exceptions for selected users or groups in your course. After selecting the user(s) or group(s) for whom you want to create Availability Exceptions, you then specify what those exceptions are. For example, you can change the time allowed for a test for a user or group; change the number of attempts that a user or group can make on the test; or make the test available for a different block of time than it is for the rest of your class. This is a robust feature that will allow you to easily meet the needs, say, of students who require special accommodations, or students who can not take a test within the same time-frame as the rest of your class.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>After setting<\/strong><\/span> the availability options in the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Test Options<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b>window of a test that you are creating or modifying, here\u2019s what you do:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/acaddb.hvcc.edu\/~m.petersen\/bbtotw\/images\/082514\/02.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"803\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/acaddb.hvcc.edu\/~m.petersen\/bbtotw\/images\/082514\/03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"685\" height=\"496\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/acaddb.hvcc.edu\/~m.petersen\/bbtotw\/images\/082514\/04.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><b>Note:<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span>with this new feature in<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>Blackboard<\/i>, you can also create numerous different Test Availability Exceptions for selected users or groups!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>As a third new test option,<\/strong><\/span> if you assign a due date to a test that you are creating or modifying, you can now prevent students from making attempts on the test after its due date:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/acaddb.hvcc.edu\/~m.petersen\/bbtotw\/images\/082514\/05.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"693\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Finally,<\/strong><\/span> it is now possible for you to provide tw0-tiered test feedback to your students! That is, if you normally provide test feedback, you now can provide one type or level of feedback while students are still taking the test, and another type or level of feedback after the test has been graded.
