{"id":5678,"date":"2014-09-03T12:30:27","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T16:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/early-warning-system-has-a-new-name-college-success-referral-system\/"},"modified":"2014-09-03T12:30:27","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T16:30:27","slug":"early-warning-system-has-a-new-name-college-success-referral-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/early-warning-system-has-a-new-name-college-success-referral-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Early Warning System has a new name: College Success Referral System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hudson Valley Community College&#8217;s\u00a0Early Alert\/Warning System has been renamed the <strong>College Success Referral System(CSRS)<\/strong> and now is open for Fall 2014!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The process in WIReD to identify students to receive College Success Referrals, the Faculty Feedback Form in WIReD, opened for use for the\u00a0Fall 2014 semester\u00a0on Tuesday, Sept. 2.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hudson Valley Community College is introducing an enhanced <strong>College Success Referral System<\/strong> based on the institution&#8217;s commitment to developing a systemic and integrated approach to student retention. The college recognizes that early detection of academic difficulties will increase the college&#8217;s ability to offer the student access to the appropriate support systems. To this end, the CSRS recognizes the importance of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>easing the new student&#8217;s transition into the college environment<\/li>\n<li>early systematic identification of those students who may be academically at risk<\/li>\n<li>early identification of students who may be having difficulties in the classroom<\/li>\n<li>establishing a common communication link between students and their instructors, advisors, instructional support faculty, and department chairperson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>College Success Referral System<\/strong> is designed to institutionally support the faculty and academic departments in the identification of and communication with students who are having difficulty in the classroom or with the college experience.<\/p>\n<p>Although the identification process will be available throughout most of the semester, <strong><em>early intervention<\/em> <\/strong>is key with these students so they can take the steps necessary to succeed before their first exams.<\/p>\n<p>Written instructions for using the <strong>College Success Referral System<\/strong> have been sent to all academic departments.
