Please take the time to review the fire safety checklist below.<\/p>\n<p>Check your usage of electrical cords:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Extension cords must be plugged directly into an outlet, not into another extension cord or power strip<\/li>\n<li>Make sure outlets are not overloaded<\/li>\n<li>If you are not sure if a circuit is overloaded, or if you need additional electrical service, contact Physical Plant<\/li>\n<li>Report all damaged cords on electrical equipment to your supervisor or Physical Plant<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t use household type extension cords on campus, they are usually not adequate to carry the load<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>\u00a0Keep exits, exit pathways and all emergency equipment clear and unobstructed<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Materials should not be stored in stairwells; materials cannot be stacked any closer than 24 inches to the ceiling.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Do not store furnishings\/materials in basement hallways, electrical or mechanical rooms \u2013 call Physical Plant to have unneeded materials\/furnishings properly stored or disposed.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Offices, storage areas, shops, labs and other work areas should be neat and orderly and chemicals should be stored in labeled, closed containers in the appropriate location.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Access to electrical, mechanical and emergency equipment should be kept clear at all times (electrical panel boxes, mechanical rooms, sprinkler controls, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Keep fire doors closed as much as possible<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Do not park vehicles in any marked fire lane<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Missing ceiling tiles should be put back in place or reported to Physical Plant<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Exit signs or emergency lights without illumination should be reported to Physical Plant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Questions\/comments please contact:<\/p>\n<p>Laurie Vivekanand, <a href=\"l.vivekanand@hvcc.edu%20\">l.vivekanand@hvcc.edu<\/a> or (518) 629-7163<\/p>\n<p>Maxine Ortiz, <a href=\"mailto:m.ortiz@hvcc.edu\">m.ortiz@hvcc.edu<\/a> or (518) 629-7787<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Published:<\/strong>\u00a0Mon, 06 Oct 2014 12:32:25 +0000 by\u00a0e.bryant<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The State Fire Marshal will be starting its annual inspection today, Monday, Oct. 6.
