{"id":6284,"date":"2015-02-03T15:56:18","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T20:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/why-are-we-making-such-a-big-deal-over-women-and-heart-disease\/"},"modified":"2015-02-03T15:56:18","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T20:56:18","slug":"why-are-we-making-such-a-big-deal-over-women-and-heart-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/why-are-we-making-such-a-big-deal-over-women-and-heart-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Why are we making such a big deal over women and heart disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well, let me show you why.\u00a0 If these statistics don&#8217;t get at least one &#8220;wow&#8221; out 0f you I&#8217;ll be very surprised:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"bodycopy\">Under age 50, women&#8217;s heart attack&#8217;s are <em><strong>twice<\/strong> <\/em>as likely to be fatal than men!<\/li>\n<li class=\"bodycopy\">42% of women who have heart attacks die within 1 year, compared to 24% of men.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"bodycopy\">Women wait longer than men to go to an emergency room when having a heart attack and physicians are slower to recognize the presence of heart attacks in women because \u201ccharacteristic\u201d patterns of chest pain and EKG changes are less frequently present.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s plaque distributes in clumps whereas women\u2019s distributes more evenly throughout artery walls. This results in women&#8217;s angiographic studies being misinterpreted as \u201cnormal\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Women are two to three times as likely to die following heart bypass surgery.
