Earth Day<\/strong> is April 22<\/span><\/span><\/span> and April is Earth Month<\/strong> at Hudson Valley Community College. Join the Sustainability Committee, the Voices Committee and the Animal Outreach Club in celebrating Earth Month by attending the Sustainability Fair on April 23<\/span><\/span><\/span> and participating in the following sustainability-themed events throughout the month:<\/p>\n Growing an Idea: Mushroom Packaging and Beyond<\/strong> Sue Van Hook, chief mycologist for Ecovative, an international company based in Green Island, discusses the growth of a student entrepreneurial idea conceived at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Evocative developed an innovative way to turn backyard fungi into a biodegradable material that can be used as a responsible alternative to packaging and insulation.<\/p>\n Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret<\/strong> The Animal Outreach Club at Hudson Valley Community College and New York State Humane Association are excited to present the well-renowned documentary \u201cCowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret.\u201d Anyone who cares about the environment and animals needs to see this documentary. Opening remarks will be made by Kathy Stevens, Founder and Director of the Catskill Animal Sanctuary and former educator.<\/p>\n Invasive Species \u2013 Coming to a Community Near You<\/strong> Laurel R. Gailor, coordinator of the Mohawk Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM), provides a general overview of invasive species in the Capital\/Mohawk Region. Information will include updates from research institutes and the Invasive Species Council, as well as a summary of citizen participatory activities, including IMapInvasives, science projects, internships and other research projects.<\/p>\n Sustainability Fair<\/strong> The fair will feature environmental demonstrations, local vendors, a seed and plant exchange, tree give-aways and craft projects for kids.
