Garfinkel essay contest revises procedure, adds prizes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/history\/\" target=\"_blank\">Historical Society of the New York Courts<\/a> is launching the 2016 Dav id A. Garfinkel essay contest, with new tools for students, and more prize money!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0 procedure has been simplified and incorporated into an extraordinary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/history\/garfinkel.html\" target=\"_blank\">web-based interactive writing and resource site<\/a>. Submissions are accepted now through the April 1, 2016 deadline.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0There will be six prizes, three for CUNY and three for SUNY.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hudson Valley Community College Human Services student Melanie Hecker received the distinction of Honorable Mention last year, with her essay,<em> &#8220;LGBT: The Road to Equality &#8212; How have the New York Courts addressed equal Human Rights for the LGBT Community?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Interested students are strongly encouraged to be mentored by a research librarian, and options for making an appointment, chatting with a librarian or accessing recommended sources are located on the <a href=\"http:\/\/hvcc.libguides.com\/2015garfinkelessay\" target=\"_blank\">Dwight D.
