Dwight Marvin Library is\u00a0considering a trial subscription to NYTimes.com for the Spring 2016 semester.<\/p>\n

The subscription model is\u00a0different from most library research databases, which generally provide access to an unlimited number of users at any given time. For this subscription,\u00a0a student, faculty member, or employee links\u00a0to the NYTimes.com website and then\u00a0signs in with their Hudson Valley Community College e-mail address. One of a limited number of\u00a0daily Hudson Valley “passes” then is assigned to that e-mail for 24 hours and content is available by smartphone, tablet, or desktop. If all the allotted passes are assigned, the next\u00a0requester is turned away and can try again later in the day or the next day to see if a pass is available. As a result, access on a given day cannot be guaranteed since access is limited to a specific number of users. Not surprisingly, the cost for access increases based on the number of passes available. (A campus subscription with unlimited access is cost prohibitive at this time.)<\/p>\n

Because only a limited number of users will be able to access content on a given day, we are interested in gauging interest in this resource. Please let us know if you are interested in access by completing this brief online survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A decision about the\u00a0subscription to NYTimes.com will be made over intersession and\u00a0if the decision is favorable, availability will be announced in the Chronicle and on the library webpage. Faculty may contact their department’s library liaison<\/a> or me<\/a>\u00a0with additional comments or to inquire about the status of the subscription.<\/p>\n
