{"id":7647,"date":"2016-02-29T12:55:53","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T17:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-125\/"},"modified":"2016-02-29T12:55:53","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T17:55:53","slug":"blackboard-tip-of-the-week-125","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-125\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Tip of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"first-para\"><strong><em>Bb 9.1 October\u00a02014<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">A\u00a0<em>Bb <\/em>tip from the beginning of this semester<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>focused on the close interrelationship between course due-dates and Global Navigation in our current version of <em>Blackboard\u00a0<\/em>(<em>Bb 9.1 October\u00a02014<\/em>), and emphasized the importance of setting due-dates for any items (tests, assignments, discussion boards, etc.) for which that option is provided (<em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-100\/\" target=\"_blank\">Due Dates and Global Navigation<\/a><\/strong><\/em>). This week&#8217;s tip highlights due-date functionality that many faculty may be unaware of: the ability to prevent students from starting a test whose due-date has passed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s how it works<\/strong><\/span>: when you set or edit the test options for a test in your course, and navigate to the\u00a0<strong>Due Date\u00a0<\/strong>section of the\u00a0<strong>Test Options\u00a0<\/strong>window, you will see a new check-box option below the control for setting the due-date. See the following screenshot:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/016.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56104\" src=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/016.png\" alt=\"01\" width=\"540\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Once you select\u00a0this option,<\/strong><\/span> your students will be able to take your test only <em><strong>b<\/strong><strong><em>ef<\/em>ore<\/strong> <\/em>its due-date. If they attempt to start the test\u00a0<em><strong>after\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>its due-date, they will get the following message:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/022.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56102\" src=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/022.png\" alt=\"02\" width=\"664\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Of course<\/span>, <\/strong>you\u00a0can get the same result by setting a\u00a0<strong>Display Until\u00a0<\/strong>date for your\u00a0test.
