The Teacher Preparation Department will celebrate the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s annual “Week of the Young Child” with a series of workshops and lectures. All events are open to the public and campus community!<\/p>\n
Rainstick Workshop How to Begin Your Job Search in Education The Sensory Diet Bullying Prevention: The Role of the Educator Smiles For Life Refreshments will be provided at each event and participants will receive a certificate of attendance.<\/p>\n
\nMonday, April 11 — 2 to 4 p.m. (HGB 100)
\n<\/strong>Presented by Dr. Dawn Kolakoski. Participants will create a rainstick to use in a classroom with children. Registration and a $2 materials fee required. Please register by Friday, April 1 with Debby at 629-7250.<\/p>\n
\nTuesday, April 12 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB 100)
\n<\/strong>Presented by Shawnna Case from the Center for Careers and Transfer. Join us for a discussion on interview strategies, networking skills, and how to begin your job search.<\/p>\n
\nWednesday, April 13 — 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (HGB 100) <\/strong>Presented by Paula Buchanan, a part-time Teacher Preparation faculty member, who holds a certificate of clinical competency in speech-language pathology. We will discuss what the word “sensory” means and begin to identify children who avoid sensory information and children who crave continuous sensory input.<\/p>\n
\nThursday, April 14 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB)
\n<\/strong>Presented by Martha Beck. This workshop will examine the nature and causes of bullying by children in an educational setting. Strategies for promoting bullying prevention will by discussed.<\/p>\n
\nFriday, April 15 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB 100)<\/strong>Presented by Ericka Kosloski and Francesca Nastasi. This workshop will provide early childhood educators with oral health resources that are practical and developmentally appropriate for children.<\/p>\n
