All are welcome and encouraged to attend a special presentation — “Understanding Heroin, Addiction and the Brain”<\/strong> — on Monday, Dec. 12 in the McDonough Sports Complex. The event will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free.<\/p>\n Described as a “must see” for parents and community members, “Understanding Heroin, Addiction and the Brain,” will be hosted by Benita Zahn, News Channel 13 co-anchor and community health reporter, who will introduce several guest speakers and moderate a Q&A session. The keynote speaker will be Michael Nerney<\/strong>, a nationally-renowned expert in substance abuse education and prevention.<\/p>\n The event will address the current community crisis of heroin addiction. Attendees will learn that addiction is a disease that causes multiple changes within a user’s brain, and about the roles age and gender play in addiction.
