{"id":896,"date":"2012-09-22T11:45:04","date_gmt":"2012-09-22T15:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/lshanah-tovah-yom-kippur\/"},"modified":"2012-09-22T11:45:04","modified_gmt":"2012-09-22T15:45:04","slug":"lshanah-tovah-yom-kippur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/lshanah-tovah-yom-kippur\/","title":{"rendered":"L\u2019Shanah Tovah  &#8212; Yom Kippur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with the mission of the Jewish Student Union, we would like to share this information with the Hudson Valley community:<\/p>\n<p>This year, Tuesday to Wednesday evening is the time of the most solemn holiday of the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur. \u00a0It is a very serious event, sometimes called the Day of Atonement and also called the \u201cSabbath of Sabbaths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, please don&#8217;t ever wish someone a \u201cHappy Yom Kippur!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, a preferred greeting is &#8220;L\u2019Shanah Tovah.&#8221; It means \u201cTo a good year.\u201d\u00a0 Another greeting is &#8220;G\u2019mar Chatimah Tovah.\u201d In Hebrew, it means \u201cMay you be sealed in the Book of Life for a good year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some people wish each other an &#8220;easy fast,&#8221; since many Jews fast on Yom Kippur and do not work or drive.
