{"id":9567,"date":"2017-06-26T19:23:15","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T23:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-129\/"},"modified":"2017-06-26T19:23:15","modified_gmt":"2017-06-26T23:23:15","slug":"blackboard-tip-of-the-week-129","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/blackboard-tip-of-the-week-129\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Tip of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Bb Learn 3200.0.1<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Here is a simple, but critical, tip<\/strong><\/span> for faculty who are doing course exports\/imports in preparation for the upcoming second Summer Session.<\/p>\n<p>When you create an export file in our most recent versions of\u00a0<em>Blackboard<\/em>, instead of having to check every individual check-box on the export file check-list (which was the case with earlier versions),\u00a0 you now can simply select the <strong>Select All\u00a0<\/strong>button, which<em>\u00a0<\/em>will automatically select every item on the check-list.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>This feature is a welcome time-saver,<\/strong><\/span> but if you use it, you\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>must\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>be sure to un-select\u00a0<strong>Duration<\/strong>, which is one of the items indented under\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75238\" src=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/01-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Why?<\/span> <\/strong><strong>Duration\u00a0<\/strong>refers to the span of time between when a\u00a0<em>Bb\u00a0<\/em>course begins and when that course disappears from\u00a0<em>Bb\u00a0<\/em>395 days later. If you keep <strong>Duration<\/strong> checked when you create your export file, the course that you import into will &#8220;inherit&#8221; the\u00a0<strong>Duration\u00a0<\/strong>begin-and-end dates of the course that you exported out of. The result will be that your new course will automatically become unavailable to students after 30 days into the academic session that you are teaching in.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>To avoid this outcome,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>un-select\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>, which will un-select all of the indented items, including\u00a0<strong>Duration<\/strong>. Next re-select\u00a0<strong>Navigation Settings\u00a0<\/strong>(which refers to any cosmetic settings that you applied to your course) and\u00a0<strong>Banner Image\u00a0<\/strong>(but only if you&#8217;ve created a banner for your course).
