The meeting will be held in BTC Meeting Room 3 at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>All are Welcome to attend.<\/p>\n<p>For any questions or support developing curriculum proposals, please contact Lois Terry at <a href=\"mailto:l.terry@hvcc.ecu\">l.terry@hvcc.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.0 Roll call by signatures<\/p>\n<p>2.0 Approval of minutes from October 15, 2012<\/p>\n<p>3.0 New Business<\/p>\n<p>3.1 Change in Contact Hours and Course Description \u2013 XRAY 104 Radiographic Exposure Physics I &#8211; submitted by Erica Cole<br \/>\nThe purpose of the requested change is to add a lab hour that is currently offered in the spring with XRAY 114 to the fall with XRAY 104.\u00a0 The switch of the lab semester will give students the opportunity to be in the laboratory setting earlier in the program providing them a solid foundation of the material they are required to know.\u00a0 The change in course description reflects the addition of the laboratory component.<\/p>\n<p>3.2 Change in Contact Hours and Course Description \u2013 XRAY 114 Radiographic Exposure Physics II \u2013 submitted by Erica Cole<br \/>\nThe purpose of this requested change is to remove the lab hour that is currently offered in the spring with XRAY 114 to the fall with XRAY 104.\u00a0 The switch of the lab semester will give students the opportunity to be in the laboratory setting earlier in the program providing them a solid foundation of the material they are required to know.\u00a0 The change in course description reflects the removal of the laboratory component.<\/p>\n<p>3.3 New Course BIOL 122 Introductory Biomanufacturing \u2013 submitted by Peter Schaefer<br \/>\nThe proposed new course is intended for entry-level training in the local biomanufacturing industry.\u00a0 This course is intended to stimulate interest in the field and prepare students for either entry-level positions or encourage them to continue in more advanced training.<\/p>\n<p>3.4 New Course PHYS 240 Atmospheric Structure and Circulation \u2013 submitted by Alicia Wasula<br \/>\nThe proposed new course is a technical survey of the atmosphere which applies elementary math and physics concepts to the three-dimensional structure of the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>3.5 Change in course subject code PHED 275 Professional Issues in Sport and Exercise \u2013 submitted by Phil Brown<br \/>\nThe proposal requests the change in subject code to SPRT as the content of the course is better served under the SPRT subject code.<\/p>\n<p>3.6 New Course SPRT 100 The Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education \u2013 submitted by Andrew Blanchard<br \/>\nThis is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State. It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.\u00a0 The course covers the basic philosophy and principles that are integral parts of physical education, athletics, and general education; state, local and national regulations and policies related to athletics; legal considerations; function and organization of leagues and athletic associations in New York State; the responsibilities of the coach as an educational leader.<\/p>\n<p>3.7 New Course SPRT 101 Health Sciences Applied to Coaching \u2013 submitted by Colleen Ferris<br \/>\nThis is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State. It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.\u00a0 This course examines activities designed to study the health sciences as they apply to coaching athletics.<\/p>\n<p>3.8 New Course SPRT 102 Theory and Techniques of Coaching \u2013 submitted by Andrew Blanchard<br \/>\nThis is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State.\u00a0 It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.\u00a0 This course will begin with an introductory phase in which basic concepts common to all sports will be discussed.\u00a0 Objectives, rules, regulations and policies of athletics, performance skills, technical information, and organization and management practices are among the topics that will be covered.<\/p>\n<p>3.9 Deactivation of the Gallery Management A.S. Degree Program \u2013 submitted by Dorothy Reynolds<br \/>\nSince its creation in 2007, this program has not attracted sufficient numbers of students.<\/p>\n<p>3.10 Change in prerequisite and course description PSYC 275 Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences \u2013 submitted by Michelle Bannoura<br \/>\nThis proposal requests removing MATH 150 College Algebra with Trigonometry and replacing it MATH 110 Intermediate Algebra.\u00a0 The material covered in MATH 110 is better suited for students taking PSYC 275.\u00a0 The change in course description makes it more current and better reflects the course content.<\/p>\n<p>3.11 Change in prerequisite and course description PSYC 280 Experimental Psychology \u2013 submitted by Michelle Bannoura<br \/>\nThe proposal requests that PSYC 275 Statistics for Behavioral Sciences be a prerequisite or corequisite rather than a prerequisite.\u00a0 Students can benefit from taking PSYC 275 at the same time as PSYC 280.\u00a0 The change in course description makes it more current and better reflects the course content.<\/p>\n<p>3.12 Deactivation of Insurance Option in the Business Administration A.A.S. Degree Program \u2013 submitted by Karen Holmes<br \/>\nThe program is being deactivated due to lack of enrollment.\u00a0 The deactivation will allow the department to assess the program and its viability.\u00a0 The department believes that the insurance courses are solid in content and will continue to offer them as elective options where applicable.<\/p>\n<p>3.13 Deactivation of Computer Aided Drafting A.A.S. Degree Program \u2013 submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante<br \/>\nThe program is being deactivated as it is no longer serving students effectively upon completion of the program.\u00a0 Students are unable to transfer directly to four year institutions for degrees n computer aided drafting.\u00a0 The skills necessary for use in industry can be obtained through the one year certificate program.\u00a0 The department will time upon deactivation to assess the program for the future.<\/p>\n<p>3.14 Deactivation of Alternative Fuels Certificate Program \u2013 submitted by Anthony Kossmann<br \/>\nThe department has decided to deactivate this program as no students have enrolled to date.\u00a0 The department will take this time to assess the program for the future.<\/p>\n<p>3.15 Change in prerequisite, catalog description, and 25% Change in Course Content ACTG 200 Accounting Computerized Systems \u2013 submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty<br \/>\nThe proposal requests the addition of CMPT 101 Computer Concepts and Applications as a prerequisite to ensure student success in the course.\u00a0 The changes in the course are being made in coordination with the concurrent changes to the Accounting A.A.S. curriculum.\u00a0 The new catalog description is indicative of the changes to the course as proposed.<\/p>\n<p>3.16 New Course ACTG 201 Principles of QuickBooks \u2013 submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty<br \/>\nThis course will include the use of a single entry accounting package as will prepare students for the QuickBooks Certifies User Exam.\u00a0 The use of QuickBooks is widely used in the accounting profession.<\/p>\n<p>3.17 Change in Degree Requirements for Accounting A.A.S. Degree Program \u2013 submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty<br \/>\nThe following courses are being added to the list of required courses: ACTG 120 Personal Finance, ACTG 210 Principles of QuickBooks, ACTG 216 Advanced Booking Applications, BADM 200 Business Communications, BADM 220 Statistics.\u00a0 The following courses are being removed from the list of required courses: BADM 111 Legal and Ethical Environment of Business, Accounting Electives (9 credits), Math\/Science electives (3 credits), Business Electives (6 credits).\u00a0 Total credits changed from 63-65 to 62-63.<\/p>\n<p>3.18 Deactivation and Discontinuance of Entrepreneurship option in the Marketing A.A.S.
