As of Dec. 1 and for the fifth, consecutive year, more than 14,100 holiday wreaths have been secured for the graves in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Capital District residents, including many faculty, staff and students on the Hudson Valley Community College campus, again responded to the ever-increasing demand to ensure wreath placements for all our deceased veterans at the national cemetery. Thank you to everyone who took this mission to heart and will once again make this a special Christmas season for the families and friends of all veterans interred at Saratoga National Cemetery.
The college’s role in the Wreaths Across America campaign is greatly amplified this year as the wreath escort convoy of more than 30 tractor trailers will make a stop on campus on its way to Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Dec. 14. The stop will include the following in the McDonough Sports Complex:
• 9 a.m. Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit and information tables
• 10 a.m. Escort to Arlington convoy arrives on campus
• 10:15-11:30 a.m. Ceremony honoring veterans and service members of the United States military and their families
Please join us for this special event to honor and remember the veterans and service members of our community, learn more about our nation’s heroes and services available to veterans, and meet the members of the 2021 convoy heading to Arlington National Cemetery for the annual wreath laying ceremony.
