Year-End student exhibits open March 23 in The Teaching Gallery

Varied work by Fine Arts and Digital Media students will be showcased.

Three, year-end exhibits by students enrolled in the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media will be mounted during March and April at Hudson Valley Community College. The exhibits are free to the public in The Teaching Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Administration Building on the Troy campus.

On view March 23 through April 1 will be The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul, the Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting End-of-Year Exhibit, and the Juried Fine Arts Student Exhibit. The Digital Media Program exhibition, entitled Pulse 8, will run from April 21 through 29.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. A public reception to open the two Fine Arts exhibits will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 23.

 

The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul features work by artists enrolled in Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting, two semesters of guided study with Professor Thomas Lail for students who have completed foundation art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. The Advanced Study students in the 2022-2023 academic year are Elizabeth Amaya-Flores, Ryan Bruce, Samantha Goldup, K Hyun Rutsky, Kailyn M. Sheppeck, Amber Lynn Stone and Mya Lee Tice.

The Juried Fine Art Student Exhibit includes selected work by Fine Arts majors from the Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters, including drawing, painting, two-dimensional design and photography.

Pulse 8, the Digital Media Program exhibition, includes photography, drawing, graphic design, animation, two-dimensional design, digital imaging, video, web art and interactive media.

HVCC offers an Associate in Science degree in Fine Arts, and an Associate of Science degree or certificate in Digital Media. Most graduates plan to continue their education at a four-year college. About 150 Fine Arts and Digital Media students are currently enrolled at the college.

The year-end exhibits are planned and installed by students enrolled in Gallery Management courses at Hudson Valley. Fine Arts and Digital Media faculty include Justin Baker, Tara Fracalossi, also gallery director, Kyra Garrigue, Thomas Lail and Jason Van Staveren. The Teaching Gallery is supported by the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department, the Cultural Affairs Program and the HVCC Foundation.
