YMCA Kicks off Achievers Youth Summit at HVCC

On Oct. 22, the Black and Latino Achievers program launched its annual summit at HVCC. Chief Diversity Officer Ainsley Thomas and Alton Campbell, the coordinator of Instructional Services at the EOC, presented educational opportunities to students and their parents.

The program pairs students with positive adult mentors from the Capital District and focuses on college readiness, career awareness, educational enhancement and cultural enrichment. Program activities are designed to give students the chance to form important educational and career goals. The opportunities offered by this valuable program help students make informed decisions and develop the skills needed to help them be successful in life. This program is open to ALL students of ALL backgrounds. Students who actively participate qualify for special YMCA scholarship memberships.

Special thanks to Andrea Heroux, an instructor in the Dental Hygiene Department, and Dr. Christine Jenkins, associate professor in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, for providing tours in their respective departments to students and parents.

In service,

Ainsley Thomas
Chief Diversity Officer
