The men’s and women’s cross country teams took part in the Bard College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The men’s team defeated two other two-year colleges to win the Community College Division and took third-place overall out of 15 competing teams.
The Vikings’ Eric Young (Shaker/ Latham) took fifth-place out of 127 runners, finishing the 4.75 mile course in 26:42. Teammate David Degon (Ballston Spa/ Aiken, SC) wasn’t far behind with a time of 27:30, capturing 11th-place. Devon Sedgwick (Shaker/ Latham) rounded out the top three for the men with a 16th-place finish while running a time of 27:46.
The women competed with four runners, keeping them out of team scoring. The top female runner was Amanda Slyer (Averill Park/ Troy), who came in 39th out of 134 runners with a time of 23:34.
Both teams will run Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Southern Vermont College Invitational.
