Marvin Library Adds Major E-Book Collection

Marvin Library now offers more than 50,000 academic books in e-book format.

The library recently subscribed to ebrary Academic Complete, a collection featuring titles from academic publishers across many disciplines. More than one-third of the library’s book collection is now in electronic format. This addition marks a major step forward to transform access to the library’s book collection, joining the transformation of the library’s journal collection which is nearly all online.

Last year, over 1.5 million journal searches were performed from the library’s 50 research databases. Distance learning and off-campus students now have a substantial book collection available anytime, anywhere; students and faculty at the main campus can enjoy 24/7 access to a robust collection supplementing the print collection located on the second floor of Marvin Library.

Publishers with titles represented in the e-book collection include John Wiley & Sons; Kluwer; McGraw-Hill; Springer; Greenwood; Kaplan, as well as Harvard, MIT, Columbia and many other university presses. Content is suitable for students ranging from College in the High School programs through associates and baccalaureate programs. Faculty engaged in graduate study will also benefit from access to the collection.

The e-book format is available from nearly any PC or laptop and does not require a special device. The ebrary collection includes provisions for accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Access to the collection is limited to current students and employees; users will be prompted to enter username/password to access the e-books, similar to accessing Blackboard and other secure campus systems.

Faculty are encouraged to contact their departmental library liaison for more information regarding e-books and other library services.

No special device is required to access tens of thousands of titles supporting academic programs offerred on-campus and through distance learning.
