The Office of the President, Division of Enrollment Management and Student Development, and the Student Senate present the final National Coalition Building Institute Workshop for 2010-2011. Open to the entire campus community.

Controversial Issues Process

The Controversial Issues Process (Conflict Resolution) Workshop helps individuals and groups move hotly contested issues forward by teaching a set of skills that are essential for effective conflict resolution, listening first to the heartfelt concerns on all sides and then reframing the debate in a way that builds bridges.

The workshop helps participants to:

— Listen to and understand all sides of the dispute

— Find common ground

— Reframe the issue in a way that takes all sides into consideration

— Develop concrete solutions through productive discussion

Situations in which these teachable skills can be used:

— Disagreement

— Conflict

— Heated debate

— Basic misunderstandings
